SMART HOME KIT: PACKAGING

MIT AgeLab's Smart Home Kit is meant to be installed by the older users themselves. In past iterations, the sensors were just thrown into a box haphazardly. This not only damaged them, but led to participants finding it too difficult to install.

This latest iteration uses an inner foam tray to protect the kit's elements and give them set locations. The instruction manual then goes hand-in-hand with the packaging by locating the first element to set up and continuing step-by-step from there.

I designed the first iteration as an undergraduate researcher working part-time during Summer 2024, when I also designed a user study to test it. I am now working on the second iteration and bringing in around 8 participants. I am excited to lead this study! More details can be found in the User Study Guide.
